Google Pixel 9a Better Buy Than Pixel 10a
Google has recently unveiled its latest mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 10a. While I have yet to get my hands on it, it appears that the Pixel 10a will make a strong case for choosing the previous year’s Pixel 9a.
In a previous article from August, I highlighted how the release of the Pixel 10 made the Pixel 9a, which was considered inferior at the time, a more attractive option. Now, with the imminent launch of the Pixel 10a, it seems that the reputation of the 9a will be further enhanced.
Upon reviewing the leaked information and specs of the Pixel 10a, it’s hard not to notice a sense of déjà vu. The design of the Pixel 10a closely resembles that of the Pixel 9a, with minor differences in the camera module, bezel width, and color options. Even the internal components, such as the camera setup and battery size, remain the same. Surprisingly, the Pixel 10a shares the exact System on Chip as its predecessor, the Tensor G4.
One significant omission in the Pixel 10a is the lack of Qi2 wireless charging, a feature that was introduced in the Pixel 10 series and received positive feedback. Without this standout feature, the Pixel 10a may struggle to differentiate itself from its predecessor.
In terms of new features, the Pixel 10a offers a flatter camera module, a slimmer bezel, slightly smaller dimensions, and a tougher Gorilla Glass 7i display. It also boasts faster wired charging, increased screen brightness in HDR scenarios, and a higher proportion of recycled materials in its construction. Google claims that the Pixel 10a delivers 20 hours more battery life than the 9a in Extreme Battery Saver mode, attributed to software improvements.
Despite these enhancements, the Pixel 10a maintains the same launch price as the Pixel 9a. This decision raises questions about the value proposition of the new device, especially in a market where smartphone prices are on the rise due to increased component costs.
In conclusion, the Pixel 10a’s similarity to the Pixel 9a and lack of significant upgrades may lead consumers to consider purchasing the older model at a discounted price. With reputable retailers offering the Pixel 9a at a substantial discount compared to the Pixel 10a, it seems that the former may continue to be a highly attractive option in the mid-range smartphone segment for 2026.
