Gunman accused of shooting Jets CB Kris Boyd in NYC fled upstate, chopped off hair and ditched phone in escape attempt: prosecutor
Frederick Green, the 20-year-old Bronx resident accused of shooting Jets cornerback Kris Boyd in the stomach outside a Manhattan restaurant last month, attempted to evade law enforcement by fleeing to Buffalo, changing his appearance, and deactivating his social media accounts. The violent incident, captured on surveillance footage, showed Green unmasked before, during, and after the shooting.
Boyd, along with his companions, had encountered a group of individuals outside the Asian-fusion eatery who began taunting them about their attire. After a brief stay inside the restaurant, the group exited, only to be met with continued insults from the same individuals. It was then that Green allegedly opened fire, injuring Boyd and causing a bullet fragment to become lodged in his lung.
Green fled to Buffalo, where he sought refuge in a female acquaintance’s apartment. In an attempt to conceal his identity, he cut off a significant amount of his hair, changed his phone device, and deactivated his social media accounts. However, law enforcement was able to track him down after locating a vehicle registered to his girlfriend.
Boyd, initially in critical but stable condition, later shared a positive update on Instagram, stating that he was breathing on his own. Despite his progress, he continues to experience complications from the gunshot wounds and may require further surgery.
Green, with four prior arrests on his record, including charges for unlawful possession of personal identification and criminal possession of a controlled substance, was held without bail following his arraignment. His family members were present in court, where he remained silent and was ultimately ordered to be held without bail pending further court proceedings.
Green will appear in court again on Thursday as the legal process unfolds. The seriousness of the charges against him, including attempted murder and assault, underscores the gravity of the incident that left Boyd injured and in need of medical care.
