Gunman opens fire during broad-daylight NYC post-office stick-up: cops

A failed robbery attempt at a Brooklyn post office left customers and employees shaken but unharmed on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred at the USPS Midwood branch on Coney Island Avenue, where a bungling thief entered the premises around 1:15 p.m. armed with a gun.

The suspect demanded cash from the tellers and then turned his attention to a 37-year-old female customer who happened to be in the post office at the time. Reports suggest that he may have even placed the woman in a headlock during the ordeal. The woman screamed loudly, alerting others to the danger.

In a twist of events, the tellers managed to escape, leaving the would-be robber empty-handed. Frustrated, the gunman fired shots at the door before fleeing the scene. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Authorities are investigating whether the same suspect was involved in another attempted robbery at a nearby Pay-O-Matic on Utica Avenue shortly after the post office incident. The suspect reportedly crashed his moped near the scene and was apprehended by law enforcement. Charges are pending against him, and his identity has not been released at this time.
