HBO Max Teams With Asian Streamer Viu for Southeast Asia Bundle

HBO Max and Viu Partner to Launch Unified Subscription Package in Southeast Asia

HBO Max has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Viu, a leading Asian streaming service, to introduce a combined subscription package in five Southeast Asian countries by the end of the year.

This collaboration between Warner Bros. Discovery’s HBO Max and PCCW’s Viu marks a significant cross-platform alliance in the Asia Pacific region. Customers in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand will soon have access to both services through a single payment plan starting in Q4.

The partnership will offer subscribers a diverse range of content, combining HBO Max’s Hollywood catalog with Viu’s extensive library of Asian programming. This includes Warner’s premium franchises, popular series like “Friends,” and HBO originals such as “The Last of Us” and “The White Lotus,” along with Viu’s Korean dramas, Chinese series, and locally produced content from Southeast Asia.

Notable upcoming releases from Warner Bros. on the platform include “A Minecraft Movie” and “Sinners,” while Viu will bring reality hits like “Running Man” and “2 Days 1 Night,” Chinese titles such as “The Immortal Ascension” and “Love Has Fireworks,” and new Korean originals like “My Youth” and “Taxi Driver 3.”

James Gibbons, Warner Bros. Discovery’s Asia Pacific president, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting the success of similar bundling strategies in other regions as a driving factor for the expansion into Southeast Asia.

Both companies will offer direct sales of the bundle through their websites, with each service’s content remaining accessible independently. Further details on pricing, launch dates, and platform features will be disclosed in the coming months.

Viu, known for its freemium model across multiple regions, received a strategic investment from Canal+ last year to support its growth initiatives. The platform aims to enhance its competitive position against global streaming rivals by expanding its content offerings and improving viewer experience.
