Heidi Montag made headlines at the 2025 American Music Awards for what social media dubbed as the “worst wig” of the night. However, the former Hills star has a different perspective on her beauty transformation, which she affectionately refers to as “H Star.”
In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly on the AMA red carpet, Montag, 38, explained her decision to debut a chin-length, blonde bob wig. “I just thought I’d go for the moment,” she shared. “I’ve never done it, so it was fun!”
Despite the online criticism, Montag is unfazed as she gears up for the release of her new album, Heidiwood, scheduled for Friday, May 31.
Her husband, Spencer Pratt, took to Instagram to defend her wig choice, urging fans to pre-order the album to support future wig endeavors. The couple, who rose to fame on The Hills from 2007 to 2010, share two sons, Gunner and Ryker.
Montag expressed her excitement for the upcoming album, which she described as a “fun, sexy, escape pop album” that everyone needs right now. She also wowed on the red carpet in a blue bedazzled look by The Blonds, reminiscent of a design worn by Taylor Swift at a previous AMAs.
The album’s lead single, “Blonde,” likely influenced the choice of designer for Montag’s AMA outfit. However, she believes that true confidence is the best accessory. “Confidence is really sexy, and it goes a lot further than people think,” Montag shared. “It radiates from the inside.”
