Hit-and-run driver kills pedestrian, leaves another one clinging to life in NYC New Year’s carnage
A tragic hit-and-run incident occurred on New Year’s Day in Queens, where a driver struck two pedestrians, leaving one dead and a 24-year-old man critically injured. The pedestrians were crossing 102nd Street near 37th Avenue in Corona when a white SUV traveling southbound on 102nd Street hit them around 4 a.m. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene, according to the NYPD.
The 24-year-old victim was rushed to NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst in critical condition, while the other victim, whose identity is still being verified by the police, tragically died at the scene of the crash.
This incident marked the first fatal crash in New York City in the new year. In the previous year, 203 people lost their lives in crashes across the city by December 28, as per NYPD data. Despite the severity of the situation, the driver responsible for the hit-and-run on New Year’s Day has not yet been apprehended.
