Homeless stranger rapes woman, 36, inside NYC building: DA
A horrifying incident occurred in the Bronx as a homeless predator raped a 36-year-old woman inside her apartment building. The assailant, identified as Kenneth Siriboe, 21, approached the victim early in the morning, covering her mouth and squeezing her throat before throwing her to the ground and assaulting her. The victim, in a desperate attempt to stop the attack, pleaded with Siriboe, even offering him money to make him stop. Eventually, Siriboe fled the scene with the victim’s belongings, including her purse, wallet, cash, ID, and keys.
Police were able to track down Siriboe and arrest him the following day in another Bronx building, about two miles from the crime scene. He was charged with rape, robbery, burglary, grand larceny, and criminal obstruction of breathing. Despite having no prior arrests in New York City, Siriboe was held on $30,000 bail during his arraignment and is set to appear in court on Friday.
This disturbing incident is part of a concerning trend in the Bronx, where 399 rapes have been reported so far this year, marking a 27% increase from the previous year. Citywide statistics also show a rise in reported rapes, with 1,504 cases across all five boroughs, reflecting a 19% increase from the same period in 2024. The NYPD attributes this surge to legislative changes that broaden the definition of rape and include additional forms of sexual assault.
This tragic event adds to a string of recent rape cases in the Bronx, including those involving repeat offenders like Zion Exum and Xavier Chapman. It serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and safety measures in communities to prevent such heinous crimes from occurring.
