Honduran national indicted for touching multiple young girls inside Long Island TJ Maxx: DA
A disturbing incident at a Long Island TJ Maxx has led to the indictment of Honduran national Jimmy Harry Velasquez Gomez on multiple child sex-abuse charges. The 44-year-old man was caught on surveillance cameras groping young girls between the ages of seven and 11 in three separate incidents over the course of several months. The incidents took place in the toy aisle of the store, where the girls had briefly wandered away from their parents.
The first reported incident occurred on April 19, when a 7-year-old girl and her mother said that Gomez approached the child and grabbed her buttocks before fleeing when the child ran to her mother. Months later, on September 20, an 11-year-old girl reported a similar encounter with Gomez as he walked past her. The most recent incident took place on October 29, when Gomez allegedly followed a 9-year-old girl around the store, pleasuring himself while watching her shop before touching her inappropriately.
Despite Gomez’s lawyer claiming that his client only brushed against the children while trying to pass them, surveillance footage from all three dates showed Gomez behaving deliberately in the store. As a result, Gomez was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree sexual abuse, as well as endangering the welfare of a child. He is currently being held on bail of up to $3.5 million.
The Suffolk District Attorney, Ray Tierney, expressed deep concern over the disturbing acts of sexual abuse committed by Gomez, stating that they strike at the heart of the community’s sense of safety. The lawyer for Gomez, Joseph Hanshe, did not respond to requests for comment on the matter.
The incident has left the community shocked and outraged, with authorities emphasizing the importance of vigilance and reporting any suspicious behavior involving children. The safety and well-being of children must always be a top priority, and individuals who commit such heinous acts must be held accountable for their actions.
