Horrifying moment ex-boyfriend slashes prison officer’s throat after waiting outside her home

A horrifying incident captured on a doorbell camera shows the moment a woman’s ex-boyfriend slashed her throat as she left for work. Rosie Niessen, 28, was on her way to her job as a prison officer when her ex-partner, Simon Scrimshaw, 50, attacked her with a Stanley knife.

The brutal attack left Rosie with injuries to her face, neck, and hands as she bravely fought back against her assailant. Fortunately, Rosie’s father, Roberto Niessen, 55, who is a doorman, heard her screams and rushed to her aid, but not before sustaining a wound on his leg in the struggle.

Scrimshaw was convicted of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm in January 2024 and sentenced to 28 years in prison at Nottingham Crown Court. Rosie, who is now unable to work due to the trauma of the attack, recounted the terrifying ordeal of being attacked by someone she once loved.

The relationship between Rosie and Scrimshaw began in 2017 when she was just 21, and she was charmed by him despite their significant age difference. The couple had a daughter together but eventually broke up, only to reconcile in 2018. However, their relationship was tumultuous, and Rosie finally found the courage to leave Scrimshaw at the end of 2022.

The attack occurred on March 14, 2023, as Rosie was leaving for work early in the morning. Scrimshaw, wearing a balaclava, waited in the bushes outside her home for 40 minutes before launching his violent assault. Rosie’s father intervened, but the damage had already been done.

After the attack, Scrimshaw was arrested and stood trial, where he pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charges against him. Rosie described him as a “monster” and expressed her shock at the extent of his violence. She has been left with physical and emotional scars from the attack, unable to return to work and struggling to come to terms with what happened.

Despite the trauma she has endured, Rosie hopes that sharing her story will help other victims of domestic violence or similar attacks. She encourages others to stay strong and not tolerate any form of abuse from those who claim to love them. The judge imposed a lifetime restraining order on Scrimshaw, prohibiting him from contacting Rosie ever again.

Rosie’s bravery in the face of such a horrific ordeal serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of survivors of domestic violence. Her story is a testament to the importance of speaking out against abuse and seeking help to break free from toxic relationships.
