Horror video of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska’s slaughter on Charlotte train is met with deafening silence
The brutal murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a train in Charlotte, North Carolina has sparked outrage and controversy, with many accusing liberal media and politicians of staying silent on the horrific crime. The alleged killer, Decarlos Brown Jr., a career criminal with no less than 14 arrests, was charged with her murder after surveillance footage captured the chilling attack.
In the video, Brown is seen pulling out a pocket knife and approaching Zarutska from behind as she innocently fiddles with her phone. The footage cuts just as he prepares to plunge the blade into her, leaving viewers shocked and horrified. After the brutal killing, Brown is seen walking through the train, leaving a trail of blood behind him, while bystanders appear unfazed by the violence that just occurred.
Despite the graphic nature of the crime, mainstream outlets and politicians have largely remained silent on the murder. Charlotte’s Democratic mayor even thanked publications that chose not to share the video publicly, drawing criticism from Republican Congressmen in the state. The lack of condemnation for the senseless violence has sparked a broader discussion on the issue of lenient responses to career criminals.
Former Mayor of Matthews, NC, Jim Taylor, expressed disappointment in the city’s handling of public transit safety, calling for a crackdown on crime. Elon Musk also called out the lack of media coverage of the killing, highlighting the disparity in reporting compared to other incidents. The tragic death of Zarutska, who fled Ukraine in 2022 after the Russian invasion, has left those who knew her in shock and disbelief.
Zarutska’s employer, Zepeddie’s Pizza, paid tribute to her, describing her as an incredible employee and a true friend. The pizzeria has kept a candle burning in her memory, honoring the warmth and kindness she brought into their lives. Brown, who has a lengthy criminal history, was free on the streets when he allegedly carried out the murder, raising questions about the justice system’s handling of repeat offenders.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has not yet commented on the case, leaving many to wonder how such a tragic and preventable crime could have occurred. As the community mourns the loss of Zarutska, calls for justice and accountability continue to grow louder, demanding a reevaluation of the policies and responses to violent criminals.
