Loretta Swit, best known for her iconic role as Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on the beloved TV show “MASH,” passed away at the age of 87 in her New York City home. Her death was reported by the New York police at 12:01 p.m. on May 30, with suspected natural causes.

Swit’s portrayal of Major Houlihan earned her multiple Emmy nominations for outstanding performance by a supporting actress in a comedy, ultimately winning the award in 1980 and 1982. As the character of Margaret Houlihan evolved throughout the 11-year run of “MASH,” Swit’s performance showcased a range of emotions and complexities. Initially depicted as a villain alongside Frank Burns, Margaret’s character grew to be respected professionally and revealed a more human side as the series progressed.
