House panel demands records of 217 NGOs that nabbed billions of taxpayer dollars to ‘fuel’ border crisis

House Republican panel demands records from over 200 NGOs that received taxpayer money under the Biden administration to settle migrants in the US. The organizations are accused of contributing to the border crisis by providing services to migrants.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green and Subcommittee Chairman Josh Breechen sent letters to the 215 organizations, stating that they had helped fuel the worst border crisis in the country’s history. The groups were accused of creating a “pull factor” by offering taxpayer-funded transportation, housing, and other services to migrants who crossed the border illegally.

The committee is concerned about the lack of accountability in how the money was spent and is investigating whether the funding incentivized human trafficking and smuggling operations. They are also looking into whether the NGOs are advising illegal aliens on how to avoid law enforcement officials.

One of the targeted groups, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), received nearly $1 million in DHS grants to offer citizenship instruction and naturalization application services to lawful permanent residents. CHIRLA organized a rally in Los Angeles to denounce ICE arrests before protests turned into riots.

Another group under investigation is Southwest Key Programs, which received around $3 billion in taxpayer funding from Biden’s Health and Human Services before the funding was cut off by the Trump administration. The organization’s top executives saw their salaries increase significantly, and the DOJ sued Southwest Key Programs for alleged child sexual abuse.

The GOP leader, Mark Green, has been vocal in criticizing the funding of immigration NGOs and has led the charge to impeach former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The Republican letter requests information on the total amount of federal grants received by the NGOs and the services provided to migrants.

Influential left-leaning groups such as the ACLU, Amnesty International, and the Southern Poverty Law Center have also been asked to respond to the queries. The investigation aims to hold these organizations accountable for their role in the border crisis and ensure transparency in the use of taxpayer funds.
