How Ilhan Omar became a Marxist millionaire in Jimmy Choos

Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar may claim to hate capitalism, but doesn’t appear to have any trouble taking advantage of its spoils.

The self-proclaimed Marxist has been spotted wearing sunglasses from luxury designers Jimmy Choo, Oliver Peoples, and Prada — each worth up to $500 — while lecturing people on spreading the wealth.

Omar, a member of the Democratic “Squad,” recently disclosed a net worth of up to $30 million, marking a 3,500% increase since 2023, with her third husband, Tim Mynett. This revelation comes after she stated in a February interview that she is “not a millionaire,” clearly attempting to conceal her newfound wealthy status from the public.

Part of Omar’s wealth comes from her ownership, alongside Mynett, of a California winery that sells its signature eStCru blockchain Cabernet for $73 per bottle and sparkling rosé cans for $20 each at boutique markets along the West Coast.

Before her venture into the wine business, Omar has been seen sporting designer sunglasses at various events, including “Defund the Police” rallies and protests against Israel. Her financial disclosure also revealed that she carries up to $50,000 in credit card debt.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who has clashed with Omar in the past, criticized her for promoting socialist policies while amassing wealth. Emmer described Omar as “disingenuous” and out of touch with the priorities of hardworking Americans.

Florida Republican congressman Randy Fine suggested that Omar should redistribute her newfound wealth to those in need, considering her past advocacy for socialism. He criticized her for not appreciating the opportunities America has provided her.

Omar’s wealth can be attributed to her involvement with Mynett and a group of former liberal diplomats and Democrat operatives in their business venture, Rose Lake Capital. The company’s assets grew significantly in value from $1,000 to between $5 million and $25 million in a year.

Despite allegations of misuse of campaign funds for personal expenses during her congressional campaign in 2018, the FEC rejected the complaint against Omar. She had denied any romantic involvement with Mynett at the time.

Mynett, who cheated on his wife with Omar and later married her, has faced legal issues, including a fraud lawsuit filed against him by a DC restaurateur. The couple has yet to purchase a mansion together and is currently living with five roommates in a rented home in DC.

As Omar continues to pay off student loans and navigate her newfound wealth, questions arise about the future of her financial success. Only time will tell if she will continue to enjoy the luxuries of her wealth or face challenges in maintaining her affluent lifestyle.
