How much longer Steelers are willing to wait for Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are eagerly waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision about his football future, but team president Art Rooney II is willing to be patient. In a recent statement, Rooney mentioned that the organization is prepared to wait “a little while longer” for the four-time league MVP to make a choice. This aligns with his previous remarks in April when he indicated that they wouldn’t wait forever, but they could wait a bit longer.
Rodgers, who had a lackluster season with the New York Jets, has been the top quarterback target for the Steelers this offseason. Despite visiting the Pittsburgh facility and staying in touch with key team figures like coach Mike Tomlin, Rodgers recently stated on “The Pat McAfee Show” that personal matters are currently his main focus. He emphasized that he is open to all possibilities and is dealing with personal issues that take precedence at the moment.
Although Rodgers has not made a definitive decision yet, his former coach with the Green Bay Packers, Matt LaFleur, believes that the quarterback is likely headed to Pittsburgh. LaFleur, who coached Rodgers from 2019 to 2022, expressed confidence in the Steelers’ plans and predicted that Rodgers would join the team.
After spending 18 years with the Packers, Rodgers was traded to the Jets in 2023. Despite a season-ending Achilles injury in his first game with the Jets, Rodgers returned in 2024 and put up solid numbers. However, the team finished with a 5-12 record and missed the playoffs. With a new coach-GM duo in Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, the Jets decided to part ways with Rodgers and signed former Steelers QB Justin Fields in free agency.
The Steelers are set to face the Jets in the opening game of the 2025 season, but it remains uncertain if Rodgers will be leading the Pittsburgh team on the field. Fans will have to wait a bit longer for the quarterback to make his decision.
