Human remains discovered in creepy abandoned New Hampshire shed belong to ‘fugitive’ sex offender Michael Schilz

The grisly discovery of skeletal remains in a dilapidated shed across from a New Hampshire state prison has sent shockwaves through the community. The bones were identified as belonging to Michael Schilz, a wanted sex offender who had been missing for an unknown period of time.

The macabre find was made after Concord Police received an anonymous tip about the skeleton in the rundown structure near the prison. Upon investigation, the remains were confirmed to be those of Schilz, a 59-year-old homeless man and a convicted sex offender. It is still unclear how long Schilz had been deceased or what led to his death.

Schilz, who had violated his parole and was once featured as the New Hampshire Department of Corrections’ “Fugitive of the Week” in 2023, had a troubled past. He was convicted in 2005 of aggravated felonious sexual assault on a minor and had been listed as living unhoused in Concord on the state sex offender registry.

The circumstances surrounding Schilz’s death remain a mystery, as officials have yet to determine a cause of death. The shed where his remains were found is described as eerie and foreboding, with a dark history that adds to its sinister aura. Situated on North State Street, the shed is surrounded by overgrown vegetation and overlooks a murky pond, creating a scene reminiscent of a horror novel.

The property where the shed stands was the scene of a fatal arson in 2005, which remained a cold case until an arrest was made in 2018. Since then, the property has remained largely deserted, with only the ominous shed as a reminder of its dark past.

The discovery of Schilz’s remains has left neighboring businesses and residents in disbelief. Employees at a nearby massage parlor expressed shock and surprise upon learning of the grim find, adding to the sense of unease surrounding the mysterious case.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of Schilz’s death, the community remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling revelation of a wanted sex offender’s remains found in a decaying shed.
