Hundreds of drones attack Russia with impacts, disruption reported in Moscow

In a bold and daring move, hundreds of Ukrainian drones breached Russian airspace in a coordinated attack that took place overnight into Wednesday morning. The targeted strikes, including dozens on Moscow, caused significant disruption to flights in and out of the capital, officials reported.

According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, a total of 296 Ukrainian drones were shot down in 12 regions, with Moscow being a prime target. Moscow Governor Andrei Vorobyov confirmed that at least 42 drones were intercepted over the region, resulting in damage to three homes in the town of Chekhov, located south of the capital.

The relentless drone attacks also impacted operations at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport, one of the city’s major airports. Travelers were warned of delays due to flight restrictions imposed during the assault, adding to the ongoing disruptions caused by similar incidents in recent weeks.

Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine’s Counter-Disinformation Center, hailed the success of the operation, noting “some pretty good hits” during the attack. Targets included the Dubna Machine-Building Plant in Dubna, known for its production of aviation, missile, and drone technology, as well as the Technopark ELMA-Zelenograd facility, a hub for microelectronics, IT, robotics, and medical equipment development.

While the claims of successful strikes on these facilities could not be immediately verified, Russia retaliated with its own long-range attacks on Ukraine. The Ukrainian air force reported that Moscow launched six missiles and 88 strike drones into the country, with the majority being intercepted or neutralized. The escalating conflict has intensified since President Donald Trump resumed office, promising a swift end to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.

Despite Trump’s bold claims and recent criticisms of Russian President Vladimir Putin, tensions continue to mount as ceasefire efforts falter. Both the U.S. and Ukraine are awaiting Russia’s peace memorandum, promised by Putin to Trump in a recent phone call. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed skepticism towards the proposal, citing ongoing Russian strikes and aggressive military actions.

As the conflict rages on, the international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
