Hurricane Melissa path: Where and when Melissa will make landfall

Hurricane Melissa, a powerful Category 5 storm with winds of 175 mph, is set to hit Jamaica as the strongest storm the island has ever experienced. The forecast path indicates that the catastrophic hurricane-force winds will start impacting Jamaica on Monday night, with landfall expected on Tuesday morning.

Due to Melissa’s slow movement, Jamaica is bracing for intense rainfall, with projected totals ranging from 15 to 30 inches and up to 40 inches in localized areas. This heavy rainfall is likely to lead to life-threatening flash flooding on both Monday and Tuesday.

Additionally, storm surge is predicted to devastate parts of the southern coast, with water levels surging up to 13 feet above ground level. Jamaicans are advised to prepare for extensive damage to infrastructure and prolonged power outages as a result of the storm.

Furthermore, Melissa’s outer bands are expected to bring tropical storm conditions to Haiti on Tuesday. By Tuesday night, the storm will move towards eastern Cuba, where 15 to 20 inches of rain could trigger dangerous flash flooding and landslides.

As Melissa progresses, it is anticipated to approach the southeast Bahamas on Wednesday afternoon, bringing 4 to 8 inches of rainfall. There is also a possibility that the storm could impact Bermuda with hurricane conditions by Thursday.

It is crucial for residents in the path of Hurricane Melissa to stay informed and heed all safety warnings and evacuation orders. Stay tuned to local authorities for updates on the storm’s progress and take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of yourself and your loved ones.
