‘I Suck at Girls’ TV Show Ordered by Netflix
Netflix has greenlit a series adaptation of Justin Halpern’s memoir “I Suck at Girls,” with Halpern and Patrick Schumacker set to write the show. The duo, who are also co-showrunners on “Abbott Elementary,” will be joined by Bill Lawrence from Doozer Productions and Warner Bros. TV. The order is cast-contingent, meaning the project’s fate depends on the actors attached to it.
The series will follow three high school sophomores navigating teenage romances and the challenges of adolescence. Based on Halpern’s own experiences with childhood crushes and losing his virginity, “I Suck at Girls” promises to be a heartfelt and humorous coming-of-age story.
Halpern, Schumacker, and Lawrence previously developed the show as a pilot titled “Surviving Jack” at Fox in 2013. Set in 1990s Southern California, the single-camera ensemble comedy starred Christopher Meloni as a father navigating parenthood in a pre-Google era. While the Fox version didn’t move forward, the trio is excited to bring the project to life on Netflix.
The production team includes executive producers Chet Dave, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer, alongside Halpern, Schumacker, and Lawrence. The trio’s collaboration dates back to their work on Halpern’s Twitter feed adaptation, “$#! My Dad Says,” which was also produced by Doozer Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
With a blend of humor, heart, and nostalgia, “I Suck at Girls” promises to be a relatable and entertaining addition to Netflix’s lineup. Stay tuned for updates on casting and production as the series moves forward.
