ICE agent fires shots at man after being hit by SUV

ICE Agent Fires Shots at Cuban Immigrant in St. Paul

On Sunday, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent fired shots at a Cuban immigrant living in the U.S. illegally after the man struck the agent and another one with an SUV in Minnesota’s state capital, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The altercation took place outside the man’s apartment in St. Paul, where he also bit one of the ICE agents as they tried to subdue him after he attempted to flee on foot. Despite the confrontation, the man did not sustain any injuries, while the agents were taken to the hospital for evaluation of their non-life-threatening injuries.

Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that the man in question entered the U.S. in 2024 through a now-discontinued program established by former President Joe Biden’s administration, which allowed migrants without proper entry papers to remain in the country while their asylum claims were being reviewed.

The incident unfolded on Sunday morning when ICE agents approached the man as he was getting into his SUV. Despite identifying themselves as ICE agents, the man refused to comply with their instructions and attempted to drive away. He struck one agent with his vehicle and then rammed into an ICE vehicle, prompting the agent to fire shots that ultimately did not hit the man.

Following the collision, the man tried to flee into his apartment but was apprehended by the agents. This incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, where federal authorities have been conducting an immigration crackdown, leading to clashes between ICE agents and protesters in neighboring Minneapolis.

St. Paul police responded to reports of shots fired but later determined that the shots were fired by the ICE agent during the altercation. The situation remains under investigation as authorities work to piece together the events that transpired during the confrontation.
