Illegal immigrants arrested in fatal jet ski hit-and-run of teenage Texas Air Force recruit

A tragic hit-and-run incident on Grapevine Lake in Texas has led to the arrest of two suspects, one of whom is believed to be an illegal immigrant. Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez and a male accomplice were apprehended after a standoff with law enforcement at their residence in the Dallas area.

The suspects are accused of fleeing the scene after Gonzalez allegedly struck 18-year-old Ava Moore with a jet ski while she was kayaking on the lake. Despite bystanders’ efforts to save Moore, she tragically lost her life in the incident. Police were able to track down Gonzalez and the unidentified male suspect after distributing photos of them at the scene.

Law enforcement officers, including those from Dallas and Grapevine police, teamed up with agents from Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to locate the suspects. Utilizing drones to surveil their hideout, the pair eventually surrendered to authorities.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton revealed that Gonzalez, a Venezuelan national, and the other suspect were in the country illegally. Paxton expressed his condolences to Moore’s family and friends, emphasizing that her death should never have occurred at the hands of individuals who should not have been in the US.

Moore, a talented basketball player who had recently enlisted in the Air Force and was preparing to start basic training, had graduated from Fort Worth Timber Creek High School in 2024. Just over a week prior to her tragic death, she had completed her studies at the US Air Force Academy Preparatory School.

During the holiday weekend, Moore was spending time with her family when the fatal incident occurred. Struck by a jet ski, she sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Another woman who was on the jet ski at the time of the collision remained at the scene following the incident.

The community mourns the loss of Ava Moore, a promising young recruit whose life was cut short in a senseless act. The arrest of the suspects brings a small measure of closure to the grieving family and friends as they come to terms with this heartbreaking tragedy.
