Illinois motorist purposely drives car into police cruiser during traffic stop
A shocking incident occurred in Illinois when a motorist intentionally crashed his car into the back of a police SUV during a traffic stop. The deranged driver, identified as Keajion L. Jennings, later told officers that he did it because he was “bored” and “hates cops.”
The dramatic moment was captured on body camera footage released by the Fairview Heights police department. In the video, a police officer is seen stepping out of his cruiser during a routine traffic stop when Jennings crashed his gray 2018 Chevrolet Camaro into the back of the patrol car, narrowly missing the officer by inches.
After the crash, Jennings emerged from his wrecked car and nonchalantly asked the officer, “What happened?” When questioned about the reckless act, he casually replied, “I need a new car.” He was then instructed to sit on the sidewalk and wait for medical assistance to arrive.
Despite being asked to remain seated, Jennings attempted to get up multiple times. He confessed to the officer that he had been drinking and had taken some “weed pills” before the incident. Shockingly, he admitted that he had deliberately crashed into the police SUV because he was “bored” and “hates cops.”
Following his confession, Jennings was immediately handcuffed and arrested. He is currently held at the St. Clair County Jail. Fortunately, the two individuals in the car initially pulled over by the officer were unharmed and received only a warning for their expired tags. No injuries were reported at the scene.
The damage caused by the crash was estimated to be over $10,000 to the squad car, as reported by the Belleville News-Democrat. Jennings has been charged with Criminal Damage to Government Property, Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Aggravated Battery with a Motor Vehicle by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Due to the severity of the incident, St. Clair County has decided to keep Jennings in custody before trial, citing him as a danger to the community. The Illinois State Police are leading the investigation into the crash to ensure justice is served.
