Indian Reality TV Gets Korean Makeover With Four Formats From Kross

Kross Pictures Dives Into India’s Reality TV Scene

Kross Pictures, a production house with bases in Seoul, Los Angeles, and Mumbai, is set to make a bold move into India’s reality television landscape. At the Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan, the company unveiled a lineup of four unscripted formats adapted from successful Korean originals.

The decision to venture into reality TV comes as Kross Pictures recognizes the growing demand for innovative non-scripted content on Indian streaming platforms. With a solid track record in scripted content, the company is now looking to capitalize on the evolving preferences of Indian audiences.

Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, the founder and CEO of Kross Pictures, expressed his excitement about the Indian content market, stating, “India is one of the most exciting and dynamic content markets in the world. After a decade of collaborating with Indian storytellers, I truly believe these globally successful unscripted formats can find their most meaningful expression here.”

The reality slate includes two dating shows, a cricket-based competition, and a survival reality series. Leading the dating formats is “Love After Divorce,” a Korean hit that follows Indian divorcees seeking love and marriage. The show aims to destigmatize divorce while providing entertainment, reflecting shifting social attitudes in India.

Another dating show, “Heart Signal,” adapts a popular Korean format in which young adults communicate romantic interest through subtle cues in a shared house setting. Additionally, there is a cricket reality show inspired by a Korean baseball format and a survival competition blending co-living dynamics with physical and mental challenges.

Sana Siddiqui, content head at Kross Pictures India, noted the changing landscape of reality TV in India, stating, “The audience is no longer satisfied with formula-based drama or manufactured conflicts. They want shows that are authentic, sharp, and culturally rooted.”

Having established its presence in India through successful feature adaptations, Kross Pictures is now aligning with the trend of Korean content consumption among Gen Z and millennial viewers in India. The company is also continuing its scripted development, with a Tamil-language web series based on a Korean webtoon set to start filming soon for a major Indian streaming platform.

As Kross Pictures expands into the unscripted market, Kim emphasized the company’s commitment to creating compelling stories that resonate with global audiences. With a focus on uniting cultures and promoting meaningful East-West exchange through film, television, and digital media, Kross Pictures is poised to make a significant impact in India’s reality TV landscape.
