Inmate accused of forging Trump assassination letter to get witness against him deported

A man from Wisconsin is facing serious charges for allegedly forging a letter threatening President Trump’s life in an attempt to have a potential witness against him deported. Demetric D. Scott has been accused of sending a letter to state and federal officials under the name of Ramón Morales Reyes.

Scott has been charged with felony witness intimidation, identity theft, and two counts of bail jumping. His attorney, Robert Hampton III, has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The case unfolded when immigration agents arrested Morales Reyes, a 54-year-old man, on May 21 in Milwaukee. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the arrest, claiming that Morales Reyes had written a threatening letter to President Trump and would self-deport to Mexico. However, investigators soon discovered discrepancies in the handwriting of the letters and Morales Reyes’ handwriting, casting doubt on the validity of the claims.

Morales Reyes, who works as a dishwasher and lives with his wife and three children in Milwaukee, is actually a victim in a case involving Scott. Scott is currently awaiting trial in Milwaukee County Jail on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery. During phone calls made from the jail, Scott discussed mailing letters and a plan to have someone picked up by Immigration and Customs Enforcement to dismiss his trial. He later admitted to writing the letters.

Morales Reyes had recently applied for a U visa, designed for individuals in the country illegally who are victims of serious crimes. His deportation defense lawyer, Cain Oulahan, is focused on securing Morales Reyes’ release from custody and exploring options to keep him in the country with his family, including his three US citizen children.

The unfolding events have shed light on the complexities of the case and the importance of ensuring justice for all involved parties. It is crucial to follow the legal proceedings closely to determine the appropriate course of action moving forward.
