Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan calls out ‘misinformation’ after Trump demands he step down on reported ties to Chinese military

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan responded to accusations of financial ties to China, denying any wrongdoing and emphasizing his commitment to legal and ethical standards in a letter to Intel staff.

Tan addressed concerns raised by President Trump and Senator Tom Cotton regarding his investments in Chinese companies with military ties, stating that Intel is working with the Trump administration to address the issues.

Both Trump and Cotton have called for Tan’s resignation due to his past financial dealings, with Cotton expressing concerns about the impact on US national security.

Despite the controversy, Tan stated that Intel’s board is fully supportive of him, although reports suggest a power struggle within the company over its chip manufacturing business.

The tensions within Intel revolve around the future of its chip production, with Tan advocating for maintaining the business while some board members consider selling or spinning off the unit to reduce costs.

Amidst the turmoil, Tan, who took over as CEO in March, faces challenges in steering Intel through financial difficulties and organizational restructuring.
