Iran-Contra figures Oliver North and Fawn Hall secretly marry 40 years after scandal: report

Oliver North and Fawn Hall, key figures in the Iran-Contra affair, recently tied the knot in a secret ceremony last month. The couple, who played significant roles in the scandal that rocked the Reagan administration in the late 1980s, got married in Arlington County, Virginia on August 27. The news of their marriage was kept under wraps until journalist Michael Isikoff obtained a copy of their marriage license.

Oliver North, a retired Marine Corps lieutenant colonel, was a member of President Ronald Reagan’s National Security Council when he was accused of facilitating illegal weapons sales to Iran. The scheme was designed to secure the release of American hostages held by Iran-backed militants in Lebanon, with proceeds from the arms sales being diverted to support the Contra rebels in Nicaragua, in violation of the Boland Amendment.

Fawn Hall, North’s former secretary at the NSC, played a crucial role in the affair by helping to destroy, alter, and hide evidence incriminating North and others in illegal activities. She famously smuggled Iran-Contra documents out of the White House executive building by concealing them in her boots and skirt after North was fired over the scandal.

Despite North’s convictions on three felony charges related to Iran-Contra in 1989, his convictions were later overturned on appeal in 1991. The case against him was dropped after it was revealed that prosecutors had used testimony he provided to Congress under immunity in the case.

After the scandal, Hall pursued a career as a model in Hollywood and later married Danny Sugarman, the manager of the rock band The Doors, until his death in 2005. On the other hand, North went on to establish the Freedom Alliance nonprofit for wounded veterans, write several books, and host “War Stories with Oliver North” on Fox News. He also served as the president of the National Rifle Association in 2018.

The couple reportedly reconnected last December at the funeral of Hall’s late wife of 56 years. Their relationship blossomed, leading to their recent marriage ceremony, which was described as low-key and did not involve North’s four children. Despite requests for comment, North and Hall have remained tight-lipped about their recent nuptials.

In conclusion, the secret marriage of Oliver North and Fawn Hall marks a new chapter in the lives of two individuals whose names will forever be associated with one of the most notorious political scandals in American history.
