Is TikTok down? Here’s what to know.

TikTok users experienced a disruption on Thursday as thousands reported outages on the popular social media platform. According to Downdetector, over 33,000 outages were recorded during the incident. Users began reporting issues around 4 p.m, with the peak of reports occurring around 4:30 p.m. By an hour later, the number of reported outages had decreased to around 13,000.

Despite the widespread reports of issues, TikTok did not immediately comment on the situation. As of 6:15 p.m. EST, none of the platform’s main accounts had addressed the outage. TikTok, known for its rapid rise in popularity and influencer culture, boasts an estimated 2 billion users worldwide.

In a separate development, former President Biden signed a law last year that posed a threat to TikTok’s future in the U.S. However, President Trump has since extended the deadline for enforcement. In early April, he announced a 75-day delay in the implementation of the ban.

The incident underscores the reliance of users on social media platforms for communication, entertainment, and information dissemination. As technology continues to evolve, ensuring the stability and reliability of these platforms becomes increasingly crucial for users globally.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, incidents like the TikTok outage serve as a reminder of the interconnected nature of our modern world. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
