Israel announces ‘tactical’ military pause in 3 Gaza areas, as aid routes set to open

The Israel Defense Forces have announced a scheduled “tactical” pause in military activities in three areas in Gaza, allowing for aid corridors to open and humanitarian aid to reach those in need. This decision comes amidst ongoing international pressure as the malnutrition crisis in Gaza worsens.

According to Avichay Adraee, an IDF spokesperson, the suspension in military activity will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Al Mawasi, Deir al Balah, and Gaza City. This pause is set to continue daily until further notice, with the aim of facilitating the entry of food and medical supplies into the enclave.

The IDF has coordinated this decision with the United Nations and other international aid groups, ensuring that aid corridors are opened in areas where the military is not operating. The Gaza Ministry of Health, run by Hamas, has emphasized the importance of using this pause to evacuate the wounded and allow essential supplies such as baby formula, antibiotics, and high-protein nutritional supplements to enter the territory.

In addition to the scheduled pause in military activities, Israel has announced the opening of “secure” aid corridors from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. This will allow convoys from the United Nations and other international organizations to deliver much-needed food and medicine within Gaza.

The Gaza media office has highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian aid, stating that 600 relief trucks are required daily in the strip. They have also emphasized the need for 250,000 cans of infant formula each month. The Hamas-run office has called for the immediate opening of crossings into the territory to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.

Furthermore, the Israeli army has initiated airdrops of food parcels into Gaza, with support from several Arab countries in the region including Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. These airdrops will provide additional assistance to those facing food insecurity in the enclave.

Overall, the decision to implement a tactical pause in military activities and open aid corridors in Gaza demonstrates a commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in the region. By facilitating the entry of essential supplies and providing much-needed aid, this initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the ongoing conflict.
