Israeli security cabinet approves Netanyahu’s plan to occupy Gaza City

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has taken a bold step by gaining approval from the security cabinet to have the Israeli military occupy Gaza City. This decision, made after a lengthy meeting that lasted into the early hours of the morning, comes at a time when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is drawing international condemnation.

The prime minister’s office released a statement outlining the plan, stating that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will prepare to take over Gaza City while also ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in areas outside the combat zones. The security cabinet, by a majority vote, also endorsed five principles for ending the conflict with Hamas, including disarming the militant group, returning all hostages, demilitarizing the Gaza Strip, and establishing a new civil administration.

Netanyahu, in an interview with Fox News, expressed his intention for Israel to take control of all of Gaza but emphasized that they do not wish to govern the territory. Instead, he envisions handing over control to Arab forces that can govern effectively without posing a threat to Israel. These remarks come amidst escalating tensions and a breakdown in ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

Hamas, in response to Netanyahu’s statements, accused him of sabotaging the negotiation process and sacrificing the hostages for his personal agenda. The Hostage Families Forum urged the Israeli cabinet to reconsider its decision and prioritize the safe return of the remaining captives.

Netanyahu’s push for a military occupation of Gaza has raised concerns both domestically and internationally. The United States State Department has emphasized the need to focus on freeing the hostages and preventing Hamas from regaining control of Gaza.

As the situation continues to evolve, the world watches closely to see how this latest development will impact the already volatile region. Netanyahu’s move has sparked debate and speculation about the future of Gaza and the potential ramifications of an Israeli military occupation.
