‘It’ Prequel Show Brings Back Pennywise

The infamous Pennywise the Clown is making a spine-chilling return, this time creeping into your living room through your TV screens.
HBO Max has unveiled the first glimpse of “Welcome to Derry,” the upcoming “It” prequel series scheduled to premiere this fall.
Taking viewers back 27 years before the events depicted in the two “It” movies, which were inspired by Stephen King’s renowned horror novel and directed by Andy Muschietti, “Welcome to Derry” delves into the sinister past of the malevolent entity known as It. As the lore goes, It preys on children before retreating into hibernation for nearly three decades, setting the stage for the gruesome killing spree that unfolds in the series prior to the events of the “It” films.
Bill Skarsgard reprises his role as the terrifying Pennywise, joined by a talented ensemble cast including Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, his sister and producing partner, shared their passion for the source material, expressing their desire to delve deeper into the narrative and character dynamics. They emphasized the significance of exploring themes such as friendship, loss, and the potency of collective belief, while also highlighting the use of fear as a potent weapon, resonating with contemporary societal issues.
The production of “Welcome to Derry” is a collaboration between HBO and Warner Bros. Television, with a narrative crafted by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. The executive team includes Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin. Fuchs, who penned the teleplay for the series’ premiere episode, serves as a co-showrunner alongside Kane.
