‘It’s a cover up’: Musk floods X with posts attacking Trump over Epstein

Tech mogul Elon Musk has been making headlines once again, this time for his vocal criticism of President Donald Trump and his administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Musk, who recently stepped down as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, has been using his social media platform, X, to express his dissatisfaction with the administration’s decision not to release additional documents related to Epstein, the convicted sex offender who died in jail in 2019.

Since Wednesday, Musk has been on a posting spree, sharing his thoughts on the matter more than 35 times. He even utilized his AI chatbot, Grok, which just secured a $200 million deal with the Trump administration, to address the issue at hand. The administration’s announcement that they would not be releasing more Epstein files despite earlier promises has sparked outrage among Trump supporters and critics alike.

Musk’s relentless attacks on Trump and his administration come just weeks after he made and then deleted a claim that Trump’s name appeared in the Epstein files, suggesting that this was the reason for withholding further documents. While he initially admitted that his post “went too far,” Musk has since returned to criticizing the president.

In one of his posts, Musk referred to the administration’s actions as “a cover-up (obviously)” and insinuated that “powerful people” are behind the suppression of the Epstein files. He also mocked Trump’s dismissal of the matter as the “Epstein Hoax” and took a jab at the president’s handling of past issues, outlining a three-step strategy that he believes won’t work this time.

Musk also reposted a photo of binders labeled “Epstein files: Phase 1” that Attorney General distributed to MAGA influencers at the White House, questioning the whereabouts of “Phase 2.” He further probed Grok about the government’s knowledge of individuals who traveled on Epstein’s plane, to which the AI chatbot confirmed that the Department of Justice and the FAA possess extensive passenger manifests and flight logs from Epstein’s jets.

Despite Musk’s strong stance against Trump’s handling of the Epstein files, his attacks were criticized for being based on false assumptions and conspiracy theories surrounding an alleged Epstein “client list.” In response to Musk’s criticisms, Trump took to his own social media platform to express disappointment in Musk’s recent behavior, labeling him as a “train wreck.”

As the top donor in the 2024 election and a key figure in Trump’s victory, Musk played a significant role in the administration’s efforts to reduce the size of the federal government before stepping down from his position in May. When asked for comment, a White House spokesperson directed inquiries to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s remarks during a recent press briefing, emphasizing the president’s success and urging the American people to trust in President Trump’s leadership.
