Jackson Jobe needs Tommy John surgery in huge Tigers injury blow

The Detroit Tigers have been hit with a major blow as one of their young pitching talents, Jackson Jobe, will be out for the remainder of the season and potentially part of the 2026 season due to undergoing Tommy John surgery. Jobe, who is just 22 years old, was placed on the IL in May with a flexor strain, but further evaluation revealed the need for surgery.

Jobe, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft, made his debut in the big leagues last season and played a crucial role in the Tigers’ playoff run. Despite showing promise with a 4.22 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 10 starts this year, Jobe’s fastball velocity dropped significantly in his last outing, leading to concerns about his arm health.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch expressed disappointment over Jobe’s injury, noting that the team will miss his talent on the mound. The Tigers, who currently hold a strong position in the AL Central with a record of 44-24, have relied on their pitching staff to lead the way. Led by 2024 Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal, the Tigers’ pitching staff ranks third in MLB in ERA (3.08) and WHIP (1.13).

Despite Jobe’s absence, the Tigers will look to continue their strong performance and maintain their lead in the division. The team will need to rally together and rely on their depth to fill the void left by Jobe’s injury as they push towards a playoff berth.
