Jankowski drives in winning run as Tampa Bay beats Milwaukee 3-2 after historic rain delays

The Tampa Bay Rays made history on Saturday with their first-ever home field weather delays, but it didn’t stop them from securing a thrilling 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Travis Jankowski played the hero with a pair of hits, including the game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning.

Jankowski’s clutch hit came off Brewers closer Trevor Megill, driving in rookie Kameron Misner who had walked and stolen second base. The ball snuck under the glove of left fielder Isaac Collins, allowing Misner to score two of Tampa Bay’s three runs. Jankowski also contributed earlier in the game with a sacrifice fly that gave the Rays a 2-1 lead.

Pitcher Pete Fairbanks earned the win for Tampa Bay, pitching a solid ninth inning to close out the game. Milwaukee got on the board with solo homers from Jackson Chourio and Joey Ortiz, but their late rally fell short thanks to some key defensive plays by the Rays.

The game was not without its share of delays, as rain interrupted play for a total of 65 minutes. The Rays, temporarily playing at Steinbrenner Field due to damage at Tropicana Field caused by Hurricane Milton, experienced their first-ever home rain delay in franchise history. Fans were given free ponchos to weather the storm.

The series finale on Sunday promises to be another exciting matchup, with Chad Patrick on the mound for the Brewers and Drew Rasmussen starting for the Rays. Both pitchers will look to lead their teams to victory in what should be a closely contested game.

Overall, it was a memorable day for the Rays as they overcame the elements and a tough opponent to secure a hard-fought win. With Jankowski’s heroics and solid pitching from Fairbanks, Tampa Bay showed resilience and determination in the face of adversity. Fans can look forward to more exciting games as the season progresses.
