Jeanine Pirro blames elitist jurors who don’t take crime seriously for failure to indict DC sandwich slinger

Jeanine Pirro, the top prosecutor in DC, expressed her disappointment with grand jurors from the affluent areas of the nation’s capital for failing to secure a felony indictment against a former Justice Department employee who threw a sandwich at a federal law enforcement officer. Despite the efforts of the DC US attorney’s office to convince the grand jury to approve felony assault charges against Sean Charles Dunn, they were unsuccessful in their pursuit.

The incident, which occurred on August 10th, involved Dunn, who worked as an international affairs specialist in the DOJ’s criminal division, throwing a sub-style sandwich at a Customs and Border Patrol officer, striking him in the chest. The video of the incident went viral on social media, leading to Dunn’s termination from his position at the DOJ. Pirro emphasized her commitment to always seeking the highest possible charges against alleged criminals, in line with the law, statutes, and evidence presented.

Despite the grand jury’s decision not to indict Dunn on felony charges, Pirro assured that he would still face misdemeanor charges for the sandwich attack. She expressed frustration with DC residents’ indifference towards crime, stating that it has become normalized in the District to the point where people no longer care about upholding the law.

The Trump administration’s response to increasing crime concerns in DC saw the deployment of 850 federal agents and 2,000 National Guard troops to the streets, signaling a crackdown on criminal activities in the area. Pirro’s determination to uphold the law and pursue justice in cases like Dunn’s highlights the ongoing challenges faced by prosecutors in addressing crime in the nation’s capital.
