Jeff Bezos Mourns the Loss of His Mother, Jacklyn Gise Bezos
On Thursday, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos announced the passing of his mother, Jacklyn Gise Bezos, at the age of 78 after a long battle with Lewy body dementia. She passed away at her Miami home surrounded by her family.
In a heartfelt Instagram tribute, Jeff Bezos shared, “Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17. That couldn’t have been easy, but she made it all work.”
Jeff Bezos also shared how his mother lovingly raised him, brought his father into the family, and cared for his siblings. He described her as a fierce and devoted mother.
An obituary on the Bezos Scholars Program website highlighted Jacklyn Bezos’ dedication to education and nurturing young minds through the program in the US and Africa. She believed in the power of education to change lives and build a better future.
Jacklyn Bezos was a founding member of the Bezos Family Foundation, which aims to help young people reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to society.
Jacklyn Bezos is survived by her husband, Mike, her children Jeff, Christina, and Mark, eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. The family has requested that mourners support a nonprofit of their choice or perform a simple act of kindness in Jacklyn Bezos’ memory.
