Jessie J Breaks Down on Stage Marking 4 Years Since Miscarriage
Jessie J delivered a heartfelt performance on stage, where she introduced a song that was inspired by her personal experience of pregnancy loss in 2021.
During a concert on Thursday, November 28, the 37-year-old singer, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, became visibly emotional as she marked the four-year anniversary of her miscarriage. The touching moment was captured in footage shared by The Daily Mail.
Introducing her new track, “Comes in Waves,” Jessie opened up to the audience about the inspiration behind the song, revealing that it was a reflection of her own grief and loss from the miscarriage. She expressed, “Today marks four years that I lost my baby. I don’t know if anyone has gone through the same thing, but if you have, or you know someone close to you and you saw it, it’s really f**ing bad.”
She continued, “It’s something that you can’t ever really prepare to go through. This song is for anybody that needs that hug. I hope this song can help you as it’s helped me.”
In a previous episode of the “The Diary of a CEO With Steven Bartlett” podcast in May 2022, Jessie J candidly shared her experience of the miscarriage that occurred in November 2021. She recalled the moment when doctors informed her that her baby’s heart had stopped beating, leading to a profound sense of loss and disbelief.
Describing the aftermath of the miscarriage, Jessie revealed the overwhelming feelings of loneliness and sorrow that accompanied the tragic event. “I felt like I’d been given everything I’d ever wanted and then someone had gone, ‘But you can’t have it,’” she expressed on the podcast. “I’ve never felt so lonely in my life.”

Although Jessie had initially kept her pregnancy private, she decided to share the news of her miscarriage on social media in 2021. In a poignant Instagram post accompanied by a pregnancy test, she wrote, “💔 Yesterday morning I was laughing with a friend saying ‘Seriously though how am I going to get through my gig in LA tomorrow night without telling the whole audience I am pregnant.’ By yesterday afternoon I was dreading the thought of getting through the gig without breaking down… After going for my 3rd scan and being told there was no longer a heartbeat 💔.”
Expressing her grief, Jessie added, “I decided to have a baby on my own. Because it’s all I’ve ever wanted and life is short. To get pregnant was a miracle in itself and an experience I will never forget and I know I will have again. I’m still in shock, the sadness is overwhelming. But I know I am strong, and I know I will be ok.”
Following the miscarriage, Jessie found love with basketball player Chanan Colman. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Sky, in May 2023.
Sharing her joy on Instagram, Jessie wrote, “A week ago my whole life changed. My son entered this world and my heart grew twice the size. The feeling is indescribable [and] I am flying in love. He is magic. He is all my dreams come true [and] he is my whole 🌍.”
“He and I are both doing great. I am soaking up every second and still can’t believe he is real, here and mine. I am so grateful.”
