JioStar Reaches 760 Million Viewers as CEO Eyes Global Content Growth
India’s entertainment market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with JioStar leading the way as the country’s largest media conglomerate. According to CEO-entertainment Kevin Vaz, JioStar reaches over 760 million monthly television viewers and engages 400 million active users on its digital platform, JioHotstar.
Speaking at the Asia TV Forum and Market in Singapore, Vaz highlighted how India’s demographic profile and digital infrastructure are positioning the country as a content powerhouse capable of reshaping global storytelling. In his keynote session titled “Powering the Next Wave of a Billion Imaginations,” Vaz shared JioStar’s vision of delivering “stories for every Indian, every day, on every screen.”
Vaz emphasized the significance of India’s 1.4 billion population, with a median age of 29, making it one of the youngest and most dynamic audiences in the world. This demographic advantage, coupled with the rapidly expanding connectivity, is revolutionizing the way stories are created and consumed in the country.
The sheer scale of India’s entertainment industry is staggering, with 900 million television viewers, 900 million internet users, 500 million social media users, and over 85 million connected TV households consuming content in 22 official languages and 1,500 dialects. The country’s production volume is equally impressive, generating more than 200,000 hours of television programming, 1,800 films, and over 400 web series annually.
JioStar has secured a 35% market share in the television industry, with over 90 channels in 10 languages consistently dominating the top ten shows across genres. Their digital platform, JioHotstar, has surpassed one billion app downloads on Google Playstore. Together, JioStar’s entertainment and sports offerings now reach 99% of India’s connected TV market.
In terms of sports content, Vaz highlighted it as one of JioStar’s strongest growth drivers, positioning the platform as the go-to destination for sports in India.
Looking towards the future, Vaz expressed the ambition to not only distribute content but to create a global imagination ecosystem where technology, data, culture, and creativity converge to redefine the way stories are told, experienced, and shared.
As India’s entertainment market continues to expand at a rapid pace, JioStar remains at the forefront, shaping the industry and setting new standards for storytelling and audience engagement.
