Juan Diego Botto Femicide Drama is Produced, Distributed by Sideral

Sideral, a Madrid-based integrated production-distribution-sales label, made its debut at the Berlinale in 2023 and has exciting plans in the works. The company has announced its latest project, “Los Relatos,” a femicide drama helmed by director Miguel del Arco. The film will star Juan Diego Botto, Marta Etura, and Ainara Elejalde in leading roles.

Both international sales and distribution in Spain will be handled by Sideral, with principal photography scheduled to begin in September. The film, produced in collaboration with Aquí y Allí Films, is set to be released late next year.

“Los Relatos” delves into the aftermath of a femicide, exploring the enduring impact of such a crime over two decades later. The story follows Pablo (played by Botto), who returns to his hometown after serving time for the murder of his wife. As he grapples with his past actions, the audience is left to ponder whether he deserves a second chance, a luxury his victim will never have.

Director del Arco shared his thoughts on the script, expressing the challenges and complexities he faced while writing it. He emphasized the importance of empathy in understanding the human experience and driving societal progress.

Roberto Butragueño, from Sideral, praised the project as bold and necessary, highlighting its sensitivity and relevance. The film tackles themes of reintegration, justice, forgiveness, and redemption in the face of irreparable harm.

Producer Pedro Hernández of Aquí y Allí Films underscored the value of the film in sparking discussions and raising important questions about human nature and society.

Sideral, founded by Butragueño of Elamedia Estudios, has a strong track record, with a diverse slate of projects in production, distribution, and sales. The company’s distribution arm, led by Maria Oliva, boasts a lineup of high-profile films set for release, including “Dreams” starring Jessica Chastain and “The Chronology of Water” starring Imogen Poots.

In addition to “Los Relatos,” Sideral has several other exciting projects in the pipeline, such as “Broken Lines” by Anxos Fazàns, “The Dinner” by Manuel Gómez Pereira, and “Blind Ants” by Igor Legarreta.
