A federal judge in New York has ordered the unsealing of grand jury materials and other documents related to the prosecution of Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite convicted in 2021 for her involvement in the sexual abuse of underage girls by Jeffrey Epstein.

The Department of Justice requested the unsealing, citing the Epstein Files Transparency Act recently passed by Congress.

The ruling follows a similar decision by a federal judge in Florida regarding grand jury investigative material from probes of Epstein in 2005 and 2007.

The Act requires the DOJ to disclose investigative material about Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in the crimes.

While grand jury materials are typically sealed by law, the judge’s order allows for the disclosure of transcripts and exhibits, as well as material shared with Maxwell’s defense team.

A protective order has been modified to safeguard the privacy of victims.

The release date for the materials is unknown at this time.

The unsealed material may not provide significant new information about Epstein or Maxwell, as previously indicated by the judge.

Despite the lack of substantial revelations, the DOJ is required to release the Maxwell records under the Act.

Representative Robert Garcia emphasized the importance of transparency in the Epstein investigation.

The judge criticized prosecutors for not notifying victims before seeking to unseal the materials.

He emphasized the importance of treating victims with respect and ensuring their voices are heard in legal proceedings.
