Julia Garner to Play Caroline Ellison in FTX Series at Netflix

Julia Garner is currently in talks for a leading role in an upcoming Netflix limited series that will delve into the rise and fall of FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, as reported by Variety. The series will follow the love story of Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried, with Garner close to finalizing a deal to portray Ellison. Netflix has greenlit eight episodes for the series, with production scheduled to commence in the summer.

The untitled project has Graham Moore, known for his work on “The Imitation Game” and “The Outfit,” as the writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Jacqueline Hoyt, from “The Leftovers” and “The Good Wife,” will also serve as executive producer and co-showrunner. The series will be executive produced by former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama under their Higher Ground banner, along with Vinnie Malhotra. Additionally, Scoop Wasserstein and Lauren Morelli are on board as executive producers, with James Ponsoldt set to direct the first episode and serve as an executive producer.

Julia Garner’s return to Netflix with this series follows her previous success in the popular crime drama “Ozark” and the limited crime drama “Inventing Anna.” She has received multiple Emmy nominations and wins for her role in “Ozark” and a nomination for her performance in “Inventing Anna.” Garner’s impressive resume also includes roles in Netflix’s “The Get Down” and “Maniac,” as well as appearances in shows like “The Americans” and “Dirty John.” On the film front, Garner will portray The Silver Surfer in Marvel’s upcoming “Fantastic Four” movie and star in the highly-anticipated horror film “Weapons” by Zach Cregger, both slated for release later this year.

Represented by UTA, LBI Entertainment, and Sloane Offer, Garner is set to take on the complex character of Caroline Ellison in the series, which explores the downfall of FTX. The cryptocurrency exchange, founded in 2019 by Bankman-Fried, rose to prominence but ultimately faced a scandal in 2022, leading to investigations into missing customer funds and allegations of fraud and money laundering. Both Bankman-Fried and Ellison were convicted on various charges in connection to the collapse of FTX. Amazon also had plans for a limited series centered around the FTX saga in 2022.

As Garner embarks on this new project with Netflix, audiences can anticipate a riveting exploration of the tumultuous world of cryptocurrency and the dramatic events that unfolded at FTX. Stay tuned for more updates on this compelling limited series as production progresses.
