Kamala Harris’ Chicago book tour event interrupted by protesters

Former Vice President Kamala Harris faced disruptions during her book tour stop in Chicago while promoting her memoir, “107 Days.” Security had to remove multiple protesters during the event, as Harris discussed her book with journalist Michele Norris. One protester shouted from the audience, leading to her removal from the venue, followed by a man who appeared to shout about genocide. The motivations behind the protests were not immediately clear.

Despite the disruptions, Norris encouraged respect for Harris, and the audience responded with applause. Harris, in response, humorously added, “And please pronounce my name correctly…” This was not the first time Harris’ book tour had faced protests, as similar interruptions occurred at other stops promoting “107 Days.”

The memoir delves into Harris’ 107-day sprint to Election Day, offering insights into her presidential campaign following President Biden’s withdrawal from the race. However, the publicity surrounding the book has sparked criticism, even from within her own party. An advisor to a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender criticized the book as prioritizing political pettiness over leadership, calling it embarrassing for Harris and the Democratic party.

Criticism has also come from Democratic strategist Gary South, who noted the timing of Harris’ memoir was less than ideal. He highlighted the negative and ungracious tone of the book, suggesting Harris blamed others for her loss rather than taking responsibility. Despite the criticism, Harris remains confident in her political future, reportedly considering a run in 2028.

Former CNN journalist Chris Cillizza also criticized Harris, stating that she is not a very good politician and has not improved over her decades in the business. He pointed out her struggles in public speaking and described her communication style as “word salads.”

Overall, Harris’ book tour has been met with both praise and criticism, highlighting the polarizing nature of her political career. As Harris continues to navigate the challenges of public perception, her memoir serves as a reflection of her journey in politics.
