Kaylee Goncalves’ Family Rips Prosecutors Over Bryan Kohberger Plea Deal
The family of Kaylee Goncalves is outraged over the plea deal offered to accused murderer Bryan Kohberger, and they are not holding back in their criticism of prosecutors. The Goncalves family expressed their frustration with the criminal justice system, particularly regarding the death penalty, which they feel is often used as a bargaining tool and rarely enforced due to lengthy appellate processes.
In a statement to TMZ, the family stated, “The death penalty is merely an illusion in the criminal justice system. When available, it serves as a bargaining tool for the State, and when rarely applied, it’s never enforced due to a highly inefficient appellate process.”
The family also raised concerns about the handling of the case by the Latah County Prosecutor’s Office, questioning decisions made early in the investigation and expressing disappointment in the lack of communication and transparency throughout the process. They criticized the rushed nature of the plea deal, which they were only notified of via email with a letter attached, giving them just one day to coordinate and appear at the courthouse for the plea.
The Goncalves family emphasized their frustration with the lack of input from victims’ families on the details of the plea deal, stating, “after more than two years, this is how it concludes with a secretive deal and a hurried effort to close the case without any input from the victims’ families on the plea’s details.”
Furthermore, the family accused the Latah County Prosecutor’s Office of treating murder victims’ families as adversaries and called for accountability, stating, “Latah County should be ashamed of its Prosecutor’s Office. Four wonderful young people lost their lives, yet the victims’ families were treated as opponents from the outset.”
In addition to Kaylee’s family, Xana Kernodle’s family also condemned the plea deal, adding to the growing chorus of voices criticizing the handling of the case. The families are united in their demand for justice and transparency in the legal process, calling out prosecutors for what they perceive as a lack of respect and consideration for the victims and their loved ones.
The plea deal offered to Bryan Kohberger has sparked outrage and frustration among the victims’ families, who are determined to hold prosecutors accountable and ensure that justice is served for their loved ones.
