Kentucky fugitive Sedrick T. Stevenson smiles for selfie with cops during ‘VIP’ escort after dramatic airport escape
A fugitive who managed to escape custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in May was captured and appeared surprisingly pleased with his recapture. In a series of photos shared by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Sedrick T. Stevenson was seen smiling cheerfully as law enforcement escorted him back to Kentucky. The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to the various agencies involved in coordinating Stevenson’s secure return.
The authorities took no chances with Stevenson this time and ensured his safe return by strapping him to a wheelchair and placing him in the plane’s window seat under the careful watch of law enforcement. Deputies humorously mentioned that the cross-country trip to retrieve Stevenson took nearly 24 hours and joked about providing him with VIP service, guaranteeing him a 5-star Yelp review.
Stevenson, 28, had managed to escape from a contracted agent on May 4 at the airport when the agent lost control of him at the ticket counter. He was wanted on warrants out of Bowling Green, Kentucky. The Port of Seattle Police confirmed through video footage that Stevenson, who was in shackles, escaped by boarding a light rail train and remained at large for over a month until he was captured by U.S. Marshals.
US Marshal Donrien Stephens emphasized the dedication of the deputies and taskforce officers in bringing Stevenson back into custody, ensuring that the community could rest easier knowing a dangerous fugitive was no longer on the streets. Stevenson was being held in the King County jail until authorities in Kentucky transported him back to face multiple charges, including being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, third-degree assault, and enhanced possession of a controlled substance.
The arrest of Stevenson and his accomplice sends a clear message that justice will catch up to fugitives, no matter how long it takes. The relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies in coordinating Stevenson’s capture showcase their commitment to ensuring the safety of the community.
