Key giveaways in Nancy Guthrie case that show suspected kidnapper is not ‘a trained assassin’: former FBI special agent
Authorities are continuing their search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie, who disappeared from her Arizona home on February 1, 2026. The suspected kidnapper has made several amateurish moves that have baffled experts, leading them to believe that the perpetrator is not a trained assassin.
Retired FBI supervisory special agent James Gagliano pointed out the unusual way the suspect was carrying a holstered gun in surveillance footage outside Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s home. Gagliano, who served in the FBI for 33 years, stated that the suspect’s behavior did not resemble that of a seasoned criminal. He noted that the suspect’s actions seemed hastily put together, indicating a lack of experience or planning.
Despite multiple points of entry to the home in Tucson, including a door at the back that could have been easily accessed, the suspect chose to approach the front door where he was caught on camera. Gagliano expressed confusion over this choice, as it would have been simpler to enter through a less conspicuous entry point.
The FBI released surveillance images of the suspect in connection with Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, hoping to generate leads in the case. The discovery of a black glove by authorities, similar to the ones worn by the suspect in the video, has provided a potential breakthrough in the investigation. Gagliano emphasized the importance of the glove as a possible source of DNA evidence that could lead to the identification of the perpetrator.
As investigators work tirelessly to find Nancy Guthrie, who requires medication to sustain her health, the recovery of the glove from the desert shrubbery near her home raises hopes for a resolution. The FBI Evidence Response team retrieved the glove, but authorities have not disclosed any further details regarding its significance in the case.
The search for Nancy Guthrie continues, with law enforcement agencies utilizing all available resources to locate her and bring the perpetrator to justice. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that may assist in the investigation.
