“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” Soars in Ratings
The highly anticipated “Game of Thrones” prequel, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” has made a remarkable debut in the ratings. According to HBO, the series has garnered 6.7 million viewers across all platforms in its first three days of release, making it one of the top three series launches in HBO Max history.
In comparison, the second season of the Emmy-winning medical drama “The Pitt” attracted 5.4 million viewers in its first three days, while the Season 4 premiere of “Industry” pulled in 800,000 viewers during the same time frame.
The success of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” has already secured a second season renewal at HBO. The series is one of two “Game of Thrones” prequels in development, alongside “House of the Dragon,” with the third season of the latter set to premiere later this year.
Plot and Cast
“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is based on George R.R. Martin’s novella series “Tales of Dunk and Egg.” The show stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his squire Egg. The ensemble cast also includes Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks.
George R.R. Martin co-created the series with Ira Parker, both of whom serve as executive producers. Parker also takes on the role of showrunner. The show is further executive produced by Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis, with Owen Harris and Sarah Adina Smith directing. The first season is set to comprise six episodes.
