Kyler Murray Apologizes for Wearing Michael Vick Jersey in Pics With Dog
The Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray, recently found himself in hot water after posting a picture on Instagram wearing a Michael Vick jersey. The post, which featured Murray posing with his dogs, sparked controversy due to Vick’s involvement in a dogfighting scandal.
Murray quickly deleted the post and addressed the issue during a press conference, stating, “In no way do I condone animal cruelty or dogfighting. Michael Vick was a player I admired growing up, but I do not support his actions.” He went on to emphasize that his own dogs, Trunks and Swoosh, are treated with the utmost care and respect.
Michael Vick’s infamous dogfighting scandal occurred in 2007, leading to his guilty plea and subsequent imprisonment. Despite his past, Vick has since become an advocate for animal welfare and even coaches football at Norfolk State University.
Murray’s decision to wear the Vick jersey was met with criticism, but he acknowledged the impact it had on people and took down the post. As the Cardinals’ quarterback, Murray is currently in his seventh year in the NFL and has led his team to a 2-0 record this season. He is now focused on their upcoming game against the San Francisco 49ers.
While some may still have reservations about Vick’s past, organizations like PETA have expressed a willingness to move forward as long as Vick’s new role does not involve any harm to animals. As the NFL season progresses, Murray and Vick’s stories serve as reminders of the complex nature of redemption and forgiveness in the world of sports.
