Laken Snelling seen performing with University of Kentucky STUNT team months before being charged with newborn’s death
Former University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling was recently in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Just months after performing with the school’s STUNT team in a national championship, authorities made a gruesome discovery – her dead newborn baby stuffed in a garbage bag inside a closet.
In footage posted on FloCheer’s YouTube page in April, Snelling can be seen showcasing her cheerleading skills alongside her teammates. The clip captures moments of her being lifted and thrown in the air as part of the routine. However, the joy of the competition was short-lived as California Baptist University emerged victorious over Kentucky with a score of 106-75.
Snelling, a rising college senior at the time, has since dropped out of school and is no longer a member of the STUNT team. The reasons for her departure were not disclosed by the school, but it was reported that she unenrolled sometime before the start of the new semester in August.
The shocking turn of events came when Snelling was arrested after the police found her deceased infant wrapped in a towel inside a black trash bag in a closet at an off-campus residence. The newborn was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy later revealed the cause of death to be inconclusive.
Snelling admitted to authorities that she tried to cover up the birth by cleaning all evidence and disposing of the supplies in the same black trash bag as the baby. As a result, she was charged with concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse. Snelling pleaded not guilty to these charges.
The investigation took another turn when it was revealed that Snelling’s former boyfriend, Izaiah Hall, was asked to provide a DNA sample to determine if he was the father of the baby. Hall’s father confirmed that the police had requested the sample but did not provide further details on the matter.
Snelling’s social media accounts showed glimpses of her relationship with Jordan, a former basketball player, in the months leading up to her arrest. However, details about their relationship and its timeline remain unclear, as Jordan has since deleted his social media presence following the incident.
Currently out on a $100,000 bond, Snelling has been placed under house arrest at her parents’ home in Tennessee until her next court appearance in September. The case continues to unravel as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
