LI fraudster sentenced to 4 years after blowing nearly $2M in COVID cash on watches, luxury hotels and crypto
A Long Island resident, Niall Alli, has been sentenced to four years in prison for misusing nearly $2 million in COVID relief funds. Alli, 52, from Inwood, pleaded guilty to disaster relief fraud and wire fraud in December 2023 for defrauding the Small Business Administration of over $1.7 million in Paycheck Protection Program loans during the pandemic.
As part of his sentence, Alli has been ordered to repay the full amount he misappropriated, in addition to approximately $135,000 seized from corporate bank accounts and Ethereum from a corporate Coinbase wallet.
According to federal prosecutors, Alli operated two companies, Allicorp, Inc. and Oxypaper, Inc., through which he submitted fraudulent PPP applications containing falsified payroll records and financial information between April 2020 and November 2021. Subsequently, he submitted deceitful forgiveness requests supported by fabricated statements to further exploit the situation.
The ill-gotten funds financed Alli’s extravagant lifestyle, which included spending nearly $500,000 on cryptocurrency, acquiring two Patek Philippe wristwatches valued at approximately $140,000 each, and splurging $36,000 on a single stay at a luxury Manhattan hotel, in addition to several other high-end hotel stays costing over $10,000 each. He also used the funds to pay for private school tuition for his child and indulged in expensive champagne and Scotch at upscale restaurants.
“Alli saw the COVID-19 programs and the deadly pandemic as an avenue for stealing money from the government and taxpayers,” remarked U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. “He now knows the price of such conduct is the loss of his freedom and full restitution to the Small Business Administration.”
USPIS Inspector in Charge Daniel Brubaker emphasized the seriousness of Alli’s actions, stating, “Alli’s compulsion for fraud exploited funds meant to keep struggling businesses alive during the pandemic. Today’s sentencing proves we will relentlessly pursue anyone who uses the U.S. Mail to defraud the government and steal taxpayer money.”
