Liberty hoping to humble red-hot Sparks in chance to right ship

The New York Liberty are gearing up to take on the Los Angeles Sparks in their only trip to LA this season. The two teams last met at Barclays Center a little over two weeks ago, with the Sparks emerging victorious. However, since then, the teams have been on different trajectories.

The Sparks have been on a hot streak, winning 9 out of their last 11 games. They have secured wins against tough opponents like the Liberty, Storm, and Fever. Their latest triumph came against the Seattle Storm, with Dearica Hamby making a crucial go-ahead layup. The Sparks have been on fire offensively, scoring over 90 points in nine out of their last 11 games and surpassing the 100-point mark five times. Their offensive rating has been impressive, ranking third in the league since July 13.

One of the key additions to the Sparks’ lineup has been Cameron Brink, who recently returned from a year-long absence due to a torn ACL. Brink has provided a defensive boost to the team, blocking 13 shots in her six games back.

On the other hand, the Liberty are facing challenges with injuries and fatigue. Players like Kennedy Burke, Breanna Stewart, and Nyara Sabally have been sidelined with various injuries, making it tough for the team to maintain momentum. Following a tough loss to the Lynx, the Liberty are now facing a grueling road trip to the West Coast.

Despite the setbacks, forward Emma Meesseman remains optimistic, emphasizing the importance of learning from losses and staying focused on the next game. The Liberty will have a tough back-to-back schedule, facing the Aces in Las Vegas the day after their game against the Sparks.

As the Liberty look to bounce back and regroup, Tuesday’s game against the Sparks will be crucial for them to showcase their resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
