‘Live With Kelly and Mark’ Parody ‘Song Sung Blue’ in Post-Oscar Promo
Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are gearing up for their annual post-Oscars special on “Live With Kelly and Mark,” and this year they are channeling their inner Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman in a hilarious parody of the film “Song Sung Blue.” The duo will be recreating key moments from the movie’s trailer, replacing Hudson and Jackman with themselves in full costume.
In an exclusive first look at the bedazzled and rhinestone-laden production, Variety has shared behind-the-scenes pictures from the promo shoot. Ripa and Consuelos are taking on the roles of Milwaukee couple Mike and Claire Sardina, who become local icons by performing Neil Diamond songs as “Lightning & Thunder” in the movie “Song Sung Blue.” In the “Live” parody, they will be known as “Glitz & Glamour.”
The ambitious project required Ripa and Consuelos to wear a whopping 32 different costumes between them, despite the clip being only two minutes long. The couple jokingly mentioned that they had to limit some of the looks to make it more manageable. However, they both agreed that the end result was well worth the effort.
Ripa expressed her admiration for the film, stating that “Song Sung Blue” is a universally loved movie with elements of drama, comedy, and music that appeal to everyone. Consuelos added that the producers really nailed the parody this year.
“Live With Kelly and Mark” will air its post-Oscars special on Monday, March 16, just hours after the Oscars ceremony concludes. The show will feature performances by Wyclef Jean and Andra Day, along with comedic segments from Matt Friend and fashion commentary from Carson Kressley. Additionally, DJ Cassidy will make an appearance, and there will be an interview with host Conan O’Brien.
As part of their Oscars coverage, Ripa and Consuelos will also be backstage interviewing winners immediately after they receive their awards. The couple emphasized the importance of being prepared for anything at the Academy Awards, as surprises are always a possibility.
Leading up to the post-Oscars special, “Live With Kelly and Mark” will air a pre-Oscars show featuring Adrien Brody and a cooking demo from Wolfgang Puck. The show remains the most-watched entertainment talk show on television and is executive produced by Michael Gelman and Ripa.
