London man slashed at passenger’s throat at Union Station, claimed to be CIA agent: prosecutors

London Man Charged with Attempted Murder at Union Station

Zakir Ibrahim (Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Chicago Union Station)

A 25-year-old man from London, Zakir Ibrahim, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly holding a knife to an Amtrak passenger’s nose at Union Station. Prosecutors claim that Ibrahim then proceeded to slash at the victim’s throat, narrowly missing by less than an inch. He purportedly believed the victim was a hitman and claimed to be a CIA agent during the attack.

The incident took place on March 3, leading to Ibrahim’s arrest and subsequent charge of attempted murder in connection with the assault on the 32-year-old Amtrak passenger.

In a detention filing, prosecutors detailed that Ibrahim initially held the knife to the victim’s nose before stepping back and making a slashing motion towards the victim’s throat. The victim managed to evade the attack by leaning back, narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal injury. The entire assault was captured on video and witnessed by bystanders.

Following the hearing, Judge Luciano Panici, Jr. ordered Ibrahim to be detained pending trial, considering the severity of the attack and the clear evidence against him.
